At St. Therese’s School, Catholic Social Teaching is integrated within the curriculum and is woven into the fabric of our great school. We also have a Social Justice Team to assist with raising awareness of such issues and the coordination of events that support the dignity of people in our own school, Parish and broader communities.
Our Senior students are given the opportunity to become actively involved in various social justice issues across the year through the Social Justice Team. The core of all meetings and actions focus on the following; the dignity of the human person, preferential option for the poor, stewardship of creation, the common good and solidarity among all.
School Captains
St. Therese's prides itself on its student leaders as we believe they embody everything that the contemporary Catholic student should. Our School Captains not only work closely with the SRC and staff leaders in relation to current school matters, but are excellent role models for the younger students of St. Therese's School. They are intelligent, thoughtful, trust-worthy, and modest student leaders and the school is looking forward to see what lies ahead for them in the years to come.
House Captains
At St Therese’s we have four house colours which are red, yellow, blue and green. These houses are represented by our House Captains.
Our House Captains exemplify the qualities of sportsmanship, compassion for others, teamwork, and leadership at our School Athletics Carnival and other House Colour related events.
Student Representative Council (SRC)
St. Therese’s values and seeks the input of the children in many ways. One of the formal ways is through the Student Representative Council (SRC) which is comprised of one elected member from every class. Each class spends time discussing the responsibilities of the SRC and identifies qualities needed to fulfil the role. Voting occurs in the first few weeks of the year and one member of each class is elected. The SRC meets on a regular basis to discuss ideas, talk about issues and determine fundraising events and causes. Each member uses the class meetings to report back on issues raised at the SRC meetings and gather information or feedback for future meetings.
Pop Chorus
Students from Year Two to Six are given the opportunity to be part of the Pop Chorus.
There are many occasions for the students to perform including lunchtime concerts, assemblies, Masses, Sacraments, and performances for our local community.
Tech Club
Tech Club is available at various time throughout the year. Students who are interested in all things coding, websites, robotics, graphic design, multimedia manipulation, prototyping and many other future skills have the opportunity to attend.
Gardening Group
The students at St. Therese’s School have become more aware of their responsibility to look after the environment. This has been achieved through their involvement in activities such as water recycling, composting, co-mingled recycling and the establishment of a garden.
The students have been able to add to their repertoire the establishment of a vegetable garden. Raised vegetable patches and and mobile gardening beds create our vegetable garden area.
Each year a new gardening group is formed and its members meet several times per week during recess and/or lunchtime. Students are responsible for preparing the soil and planting seedlings and cuttings. They then tender to the crops by regularly watering and fertilising them until it’s time to harvest. During the ‘waiting’ period students also look after other garden areas throughout the school by weeding and fertilising them.
All the Gardening Group members have enjoyed sampling some of the produce – snow peas and strawberries seem to be a favourite – as well as having the opportunity to sell some of the vegetables to teachers.
